Development: Supporters of former president Jean-Bertrand Aristide carried out a daytime jail break from the national prison in Port-au-Prince on 19 February: between 350 and 500 prisoners are believed to have escaped. Details on the raid are sketchy but witnesses claim that at least six armed men entered the compound while visiting family members were delivering food to inmates. One guard was shot dead.
